The tea plant has been cultivated in China for several thousand years. The plant’s important constituents include numerous vitamins, minerals, tannins, caffeine, as well as catechins. Most of the health-promoting properties are attributed to catechin. Catechins are also responsible for the bitter taste of the tea. In addition to a positive influence on the cardiovascular system, green tea is also attributed with antioxidant properties. The tannins it contains support a nervous stomach and intestine.
