Cayenne pepper (Capsicum) belongs to the family of Solanaceae (nightshades). Both the fruits and the seeds are characterized by a burning hot taste. The dried, ripe fruits are used, whose main active ingredient is capsaicin. Incorporated into an ointment base, cayenne pepper soothes strained muscles, nerves, and joints.
